I was studying a few nights ago at work while others were busy gossiping and I came across a few passages of Scripture that I have read many times before but never really got a full understanding on but the Lord opened my eyes to help me see more clearly what is being referred to. We are all familiar with the passage in Mark 9:44 “Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.” This is also referred to in Isaiah 66:24. Now what I had not fully understood was what is the “their worm” referring to? Then it came to me as I was studying in Psalm 22:6 Jesus referred to himself as a worm. Why? Isaiah 53:10 gives us the reason. He was made an offering for sin! You see when a person dies without Christ Blood applied they die in a a state of sin because they rejected what He did on the Cross. They reject the payment He made for sin so they have to pay the penalty themselves! So the “worm” is referring to a man’s soul after the penalty of sin and found guilty! Jesus became a “worm”(Sin Offering to pay the Penalty) so we would not have to be! If we reject this and die lost our “worm” (Soul lost without God) will never die but be tormented forever in Hell!!
