God Will Provide Himself
Genesis 22:1-8 has some interesting material in it that if you causally run across it you will miss some neat revelations God placed into this passage. Lets start with Verse 2. Notice that he is to go into the land of Moriah upon ONE of the Mountains that God would show him. Where is this mountain at? 2 Chronicles 3:1 gives us the answer. This passage lets us know Solomon began to build the house of the Lord at Jerusalem in Mount Moriah! So The Mountain is in Jerusalem. Now lets go back to Genesis and continue. Notice in verse 7 it shows Isaac asking a very important question. We got the fire,we got the wood, but where is the sacrifice. Notice very carefully what abraham says in response. God will provide HIMSELF a LAMB for a burnt offering. I have heard this verse misquoted so many times it has made me sick. It does not say “God will provide FOR himself a lamb “but rather “God will provide HIMSELF a lamb for a burnt offering”. This is a very important detail in the text. Who is the Lamb? John 1:36 gives the answer. John tells us it is Jesus. How do will know this? Simple. First consider in Genesis 22:13 it says that it was a RAM caught in the thicket not a LAMB!Second John tells us Jesus is the Lamb. Third remember it is in Jerusalem that Mt Moriah resides. The Bible tells us that When Jesus was crucified he went up Golgotha(Matthew 27:33) Calvary(Luke 23:33) and there laid down His life for us! If you read the context of these passages you will see this is in Jerusalem and it is a mount! He as Isaac went up the Mount with fire and wood(Cross) and was bound as Isaac was(Matthew 27:2 and Psalm 118:27). Jesus HIMSELF being God manifest in the Flesh(1 Timothy 3:16) fulfilled this prophecy to the letter!! Praise God!! You wont find this in the new versions! They mistranslate it to cause you to miss the connection to Jesus deity!!
