Nehemiah 9:19 “Yet thou in thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness: the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to shew them light,and the way wherein they should go.” As I was studying the Scriptures I came across this passage and got some great spiritual nuggets I wanted to share with everyone. There are so many things about Jesus and the Holy Spirit that are in this one verse so I’m going to break it down section by section so you can see all the types and shadows in this one verse alone!! Ok so first we see “forsookest them not in the wilderness” compare that with Hebrews 13:5 and Matthew 28:20. God will not forsake us!! The “Pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way” This is a direct reference to Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. First Jesus on several occasions is said to be in a cloud. Look at Matthew 17:5; Mark 9:7; Luke 9:34-35; Luke 21:27; Acts 1:9; 1 Cor. 10:1-2;Rev.14:14; Matt.24:30 Matt.26:64; Rev.1:7. Then we are told it would “lead them in the way”. Compare what the Holy Spirit will do in John 16:13;1 John 4:6;1 John 5:6;1 John 2:27. Then Jesus tells us He is the Way in John 14:6. “The pillar of fire by night,(Our God is a consuming fire Hebrews 12:29; Malachi 3:2), to shew them light”. We know from studying God’s unchanging Word that His Word gives us light Psalm 119:105 and this is manifested in all its fullness with Jesus Christ the incarnate Word John 1:1;1:9,3:19;8:12;9:5;12:46 and 1John 1:5. This is amazing to say the least that there is this much revelation out of one verse of Scripture! I love God’s Word!!!
