Replenish or Fill?
In Genesis 1:28a we read the following “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it:..”(KJV) Now lets read it out of a “new” and “improved” Bible that is only suppose to be updating “old English” terms to help the reader better understand(1 Corinthians 2:14) the Bible! “Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it;…”(NKJV)Also compare Genesis 9:1 as well. Now in these passages did you notice one slight word change which makes the verse have a totally different meaning. Its the word “replenish” changed to the word “fill”. You may be asking what is the big deal here. Its very simple. Replenish means to restore something that was lost before as in Genesis 9:1. The reference in Genesis 1:28 is referring you back to something that took place between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. Read them carefully. In verse 1 we see God creating something yet in verse 2 it is void and without form. God does not create anything void and without form(Isaiah 45:18)! The verses are taking you back to a time when Lucifer reigned here before his fall. See Isaiah 14: 12-19; Jeremiah 4:23; Ezekiel 28:11-19; 2 Peter 3:5-6; Jude 6. So we see from all this that when Lucifer lost his place and was cast out and God destroyed the first world with a flood that Adam is created afterwards to restore what was lost and therefore replenish the earth. When he fell in the garden and mankind became soo wicked that a second flood would be pronounced to destroy this sinful world and after that Noah was commanded to replenish the earth a second time. The New versions…all of them obscure this passage soo that you cant reference it back to what is being referred to. One word makes all the difference in the world! Praise God for His Word!!
